Improving Safety of Rothernhithe Tunnel Reported anonymously at 19:39, Thu 1 October 2020 Hello I have seen many accidents and closures in the Rotherhithe Tunnel due to cars believing there is a twin lane system in place similar to the surrounding road tunnels. I believe the rate could be substantially reduced by placing periodic arrows for flow of direction of traffic painted on each lane. Currently there is only a no overtaking sign (which some drivers will not understand) with no real explanation to why. Drivers have hit each other head on - especially in the bends of the tunnel. The speed limit signs on both sides of the carriageway when driving through I think further add to the confusion in drivers that are tired/new to the area. Painted arrows would be cheap and would really benefit the safety of the tunnel and reduce the disruption caused by these types of collisions.
