Inefficient road design causes tailbacks Reported anonymously at 12:58, Fri 30 July 2021 On the eastbound approach to Chiswick Roundabout, the road changes from 1 lane (+ bus lane) to 3 lanes. For most road users, the road effectively goes from 1 to 3 lanes. When traffic is backed up to this 1->3 point it prevents access to all of the 3 lanes. Worst case scenario is that all the traffic picks the same lane leaving the other two lanes completely empty! Which means that traffic can only enter the roundabout at 1/3 of the theoretical rate. This in turn causes a queue all the way back to Kew Bridge junction, and sometimes even beyond (both towards Brentford and over the Kew Bridge). If the end of the bus lane was moved a bit further west (perhaps to just after the bus stop) giving a short stretch of 2 lane road, might it help traffic flow sensibly into the final three lanes?
