Uneven cycle path along Great West Road

Reported anonymously at 17:39, Wed 3 August 2022

The cycle lane of south side Great West Road between Syon Lane station and Brentford station is very uneven and unsafe particularly in regards to junctions with side roads. At these junctions, the transition from raised cycle lane to road surface is crooked and uneven. You have to slow down significantly or change course to avoid accident. It is particularly bad when cyclists are incoming from the opposite direction as there is typically no room to maneouvre. I have cycled on this path near daily since October 2021, and I have seen no improvement to the quality of the cycle and in addition, the pedestrian path. This is not even mentioning the tree roots, small potholes, uneven drain covers littered throughout the path. Additionally, as you are to approach the Syon Lane portion of the route, there is a bus stop next to the Homebase. It is at this point that the cycle lane merges onto the extremely busy and dangerous Great West Road. And if you wish to avoid that, you have to cycle past the bus stop. The pavement here is extremely narrow, and the bus stop is typically busy. There is no room for people waiting for the bus and people trying to pass through either on foot or by bike to move. The car park at Homebase could be reduced by a couple of metres in this area to widen the pavement and extend the cycle path allowing people to pass safely.
