Pot holes in road, road debris on pavements, traffic congestion, narrow lane for large vehicles

Reported in the Roadworks category anonymously at 22:38, Thu 30 January 2020

Sent to TfL 1 minute later. TfL ref: FMS1970584.

The congestion currently on Brownhill Road at the junction of Laleham Road towards Plassy Road is unacceptable. Although there are temporary traffic lights, the space available for single file traffic is not adequate for large lorries, which are frequent and are too close to the pavement. There are several potholes which have been filled, only to reopen. Large pieces of tarmac debris cover the pavement near the junction with Laleham Road. This presents a trip hazard, which nearly resulted in a fall for me yesterday. I am fit and well. My concern is for the elderly, disabled and children. During last week's heavy rain, the pot holes caused flooding onto the pavement, and it was impossible to safely cross Laleham road without being covered with water and road debris. Vehicles keep their engines running at the temporary lights, in what is a low emmision zone. I live on Brownhill Road and have asthma. My partner also has a lung condition. The road is mainly residential and already suffers from air pollution. The gas works are essential. However, consideration has not been given to the disruption for residents in accessing their properties and pedestrian safety, or to the elderly and disabled. Bus stops are also out of use which people rely on. The works are to continue for 6 months. I would like Tfl to see the disruption and address the issues I have raised with the contractors. I would also like reassurances that the damage caused to the road and pavements is rectified to a high standard, particularly as both were improved relatively recently when road resurfacing works were completed. The condition of Brownhill road is the worst I have ever seen it in the 20 years I have been a resident.

Updates

  • Our routine inspections had already picked up this issue and SGN will try and resolved the issue of any damaged to the footway, but the carriageway will be inspected once the works are completed. We can only apologise for the inconvenience while the works are being carried out, but they are essential works. This section will be completed by 10/02/2020, but works will be continued on Jutland Road, Rushey Green, with the junction of Brownhill Road until 26/04/2020. Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. Should you need anything else or have any questions please contact customer services on 0343 222 1234
