Road works and traffic congestion

Reported in the Roadworks category anonymously at 09:16, Thu 12 March 2020

Sent to TfL 4 minutes later. TfL ref: FMS2057087.

What precisely are you doing to sort out the traffic congestion on Edgware Road?

It is getting worse on a daily basis.

The number of developments and road works are making travel impossible.

How are you holding the councils to account while we are paying for travel with you?

Sort it out

  • Good afternoon, The works at Harrow Road Edgware road is part of the healthy street scheme and is therefore making the public realm more appealing to pedestrians which includes safer crossings and clearer signalling.

The speed of Edgware road will be reduced to 20mph to ease congestion and make the roads safer.

Seymour street and Old Marylebone road have already been completed.

As part of the works the junctions have been staggered to not happen all at once, Harrow road/Edgware road will be completed by 5th April 2020. (Target 1st April)

The junction with George street will be completed by mid April.

The remaining junctions will begin once George street is completed.

With regards to traffic during the works, to do these improvements there will have to be some disruption however to mitigate this, the temporary traffic systems that are being used at both Harrow road and George street are the best for job and the Network performance team have control of the lights and are still able to implement their timing plans.

There are inspectors on site constantly to ensure the movement of traffic, by checking the approved plans are reflected on site with the Traffic management (cones/ barriers etc). Should you need anything else or have any questions please contact customer services on 0343 222 1234
