Safety Concern

Reported in the Stuck on red category anonymously at 14:34, Thursday 30 July 2020

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2223671.

We have waited over 10 minutes at the corner of Eardley Road and Mitcham Lane at a red light that did not change. We drive here daily and the light changes regularly as you would expect. We are concerned people will get impatient as the day gets busier and it could cause accidents.

Location of problem: Corner of Eardley Road and Mitcham Lane, opposite Furzedown pub

  • This issue has been on these lights since last year, before the lights were upgraded. At all hours of the day the lights can remain red for up to 10 minutes. Impatient drivers are beeping horns and creating pressure on the drivers at the front to pass through the red light. Several times this has happened and some drivers are recklessly ignoring pedestrian signals, putting lives in danger. When a pedestrian presses the button to cross the road, the lights begin the cycle to change and will eventually go green. They then work correctly for around 5 to 10 minutes before reverting back to permanent red on Westcote Road and permanent green on Mitcham Lane
