Proposed LTN plan - Bounds Green

Reported in the Streetspace Suggestions and Feedback category anonymously at 09:39, Friday 31 July 2020

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2224511.

As a resident in Bounds Green North (and Labour voter)I implore you to intervene if possible regarding this proposed LTN plan spearheaded by Cllr Ian Barnes. I am very eager to see improvements in our area, and am absolutely in support of LTN schemes and other environmental improvements in general. However the below plan is simply not thought out well, and will cause extreme health and safety issues in our little area. The reality is that we are not Winchmore Hill, or Muswell Hill, or Crouch End, etc… We do not have a bustling high street, and most amenities that people need to access are not close and require traversing the NCR. If we had a bustling high street, and there was great East/West Public transit in North London I would have less of an objection. But we don’t so many people do need to drive. While through traffic in our area is an issue we’d all like to see improved - it is clear the majority do not want to pay for that with horrible access for residents. I won’t waste your time with a massively long email listing every concern I and other local residents have. But I will point out one massive flaw. Residents in the area between Telford Road and Brownlow Road who are coming from North, West, South - will have no other option than to drive around the NCR (travelling east) to make a right turn into Warwick Avenue. This area of the NCR is horrible as I’m sure you are aware because of the traffic lights on the corner and reduction to two lanes. The only right turn available into Warwick road has a tiny filter lane (I wouldn’t even call it that) that can barely fit two small cars. With all residents needing to use this turn it will no doubt cause even more backup on the NCR, and likely lead to accidents as people try to push through when there isn’t time left on the lights. This is unsafe and a horrible bottle neck. Please, please put a stop to this until it can be properly thought through and presented to the local residents in a manner that gives them time to ask questions and raise any concerns. Money available because of Covid-19 should not be pushing through badly thought out proposals like this. The money in question is (as I understand it) there to encourage improvements for walking and biking, to try and keep public transit for those who really need it. Simply look at the map and see where we are. We are not a great area for cycling and walking to anything that people need to get to. Please help. Many thanks
