Traffic lights at Beckenham Junct

Reported via mobile in the General Fault category anonymously at 19:50, Tuesday 17 November 2020

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2392873.

Albemarle Road is currently being switched to a one way. Council needs to re-jig the lights at the junction to give some priority to the right turn off Albemarle road (towards O’Neill’s/Patricks pubs). It is a nightmare to switch the road to a one way system up to these lights but the lights do not allow for the cars to move at any real time! Each light change by the time the oncoming goes you’re lucky to get 2 cars turn from Albemarle. It’s not suitable for a now one way to have no priority to turn at the junction for any length of time when all other sides do. It is not something anyone who planned this has given consideration to as it would of been done already if they did. It would save an awful lot of accidents as of course unfortunately people are going to get extremely frustrated waiting in the queues of traffic for 30mins plus (happening today already on first day of switch over) and put the foot down to “make the lights” at the junction to get across it. It honestly is ridiculous that one maybe two cars MIGHT get to turn across the junction each time. This has been a problem for years and the traffic is already horrendous on this road but unfortunately today it has now just been heightened and the frustration in drivers from today alone is quite worrying as to might happen. This is an extremely busy junction for pedestrians also as it’s the main cross over for both getting to the high st and also it is the main exit of the train station. Please can this be dealt with as a matter of urgency before there is multiple accidents

  • What idiot decided to make Albemarle road pretty much a one-way system ?? I thought Bromley were above doing stupid things but obviousely not !! The traffic is now going over the bridge (unmade) at Downsbridge Road causing vehicles to go down the avenue (Also unmade) which us residents have been very recently paid for out of there own pockets to have repaired and surfaced. This is not acceptable and I will expect a reduction in the council tax I pay.The traffic from Beckenham junction up Albemarle extended right up to where the speed cameras are last night !!!

  • The traffic along Albermarle Road heading from the direction of Shortlands towards beckenham junction train station has become unbearable to the residents of Albermarle Road and to any users of this road. The traffic lights at the crossroads of Southend Road and Albermarle Road are disastrously out of phase and these lights are causing a huge backlog of traffic along Albermarle Road. How is any cyclist meant to ride along the new cycle route of Albermarle Road without being intoxicated with the standing still fumes of all this traffic?? This cycle route has to be rethought or the lights at the previously mentioned crossroads have to have a right filter turning onto Southend Road. I for one will not be cycling along this route to only breathe in all the standstill traffic. TFL has to sort this out for the health of the cyclists using this new route

  • Please also remove the parking bays on the left side of the road as the traffic approaches the lights at Beckenham Junction. With vehicles allowed to park in these bays the traffic is unable to split into two lanes meaning any vehicles wishing to go straight on after sit in traffic with all of the cars waiting to go right.
