Extremely noisy "clunking" manhole cover on Balham Hill at the junction with Dinsmore Road

The manhole cover makes a loud clunking sound all day and night as this is a very busy road. It is keeping us awake as the traffic is 24/7. This has been an issue in the past and it was fixed by covering it with tarmac. Apparently it is a Thames Water surface drain cover but not in use so that's why they tarmacked over it. There is currently no tarmac on it and the noise is intolerable at night as this is a bus route and lots of lorries use the road. As a long term resident, this has been an ongoing issue: I first raised it over the telephone in 2008, then by email to TFL (ref. 5009663) in 2015 and then again in 2018 (ref. 1015174066). Please try and find the history of how this has been fixed in the past, as I have been around the houses several times being pushed from Council to TFL to Thames Water etc. and it has been fixed before so please fix it again.

  • It is now over 20 days since this was reported and there has not been an update. The noise is getting worse, it is impossible to fall asleep until the early hours and the noise starts up again around 6am it is torture! Sort it out!
