The stretch of road between Tooting bec to Glenburnie road is terribly designed for safe walking, the pavements are thin and the road has absolutely no road calming measures. Cars speed between the stretch which has no crossing points until past glenburnie road. Lack of pavement space and lack of crossing often mean pedestrians walk in and across the road with fast flowing traffic. There are two local schools nearby and so this is a particular concern to school children. Some redesign is urgently needed. A zebra crossing between tooting bec and glenburnie would make a huge difference to the route, pedestrians would have a safe road to cross the road and road users would have a soft road calming installation that would act as the deterrent needed to slow down the pace of speeding traffic through the stretch of road. TFL really need to have someone look at this to see with their own eyes, it feels like an abandoned highway at the moment, unmaintained and forgotten.
Thank you for taking the time to report pavement overcrowding, we are looking to provide more space for both pedestrians and cyclists on our network across the Capital. Your information will be used to help target areas where measures are needed. We will do our best to make as much space as we can while social distancing guidelines remain in place
