Conflicting road signs
Reported via mobile in the Roadworks category by Dan Pascoe at 12:54, Tue 23 February 2021
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2566059.
A316 Great Chertsey Road, roundabout junction with Hospital Bridge Road. Current long term road works in place. The roadworks have closed the offside lanes of the A316 in both directions, the original lane markings are still present and well understood by road users but the roadworks have yellow signs up which conflict with the road markings which could easily lead to a collision. For both directions of travel the nearside lane should be for left turn (1st exit) only (like normal) and the 2nd lane should be for continuing straight ahead (2nd exit) or turning right. Due to the conflicting road markings and signage I have seen many near misses already. I’m a Police Sergeant for Surrey Police’s Roads Policing Unit

I have also noted this inconsistency (I have logged a complaint that as there are 3 lanes as you approach the roundabout then you could probably avoid reducing the 2 lanes to one from each direction on the A316.

Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. You will be pleased to know that our routine inspections had already picked up this issue and it has been resolved. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while safety works were being carried out after an RTA. All lanes have since been reopened.
