Unsafe for cyclistist. No safe alternative provision. Accident waiting to happen

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 11:48, Sat 10 April 2021

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2663433.

Thurston road is beyond a joke. Now, there is no access to the cycle path, with an unsafe alternative proviced to cross one of the busiest roads in SE London. The temporary pedestrian crossing lights aren't always working. This is an important cycling crossing, but the sign incorrectly identifoes this as solely a pedestrian crossing. The cycle lane is blocked by works traffic, offering no safe alternative for cyclists. Thurston should be the “safe” cycle route and is a key element of the established Waterlink Way cycling route that links to Cycleway 10 in Deptford. It is anything but safe at the moment and an accident is surely inevitable unless action is taken quickly.

  • Our routine inspections had already picked up this issue and it has been resolved. Cyclists diversion signs added New PLS installed with Visually impaired facilities, all Kerb Ramps secured Pedestrians Diversion signs are acceptable as two routes available. Space taken on Thurston road appears to be justified, we have observed cyclist using the route without any issues.
