Roadworks causing 1hr+ queues on A2
Reported via mobile in the Roadworks category anonymously at 07:49, Sun 18 April 2021
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2676927.
It took me over an hour to cross Blackheath by car yesterday evening (a distance of 1-2 miles) due to a small hole in the middle of the A2 which required temporary traffic lights. As a result of this, traffic is queuing for miles throughout the local area, causing a horrendous impact on air pollution and preventing emergency vehicles from passing through. Given that this is the main road into the centre of London, why aren’t the roadworks taking place 24/7 to ensure they are completed as quickly as possible? The only other time I’ve seen traffic like that in the past decade is when the Blackwall tunnel was closed for over a day. It is unsafe to all local residents to have this situation continuing.

The team undertaking this job left at 1.30pm on Saturday. They were back on Sunday and finished before 1.30pm and so it could have been completed in 1 day. Then even though it was finished, the traffic lights were left as SALT until sometime between 3.30pm and 5pm. This caused horrendous queues in both directions with resulting pollution and delays which was completely avoidable.

Further to 18.37 update. I have videos of the road with traffic lights still in place but work completed if required.

Good afternoon, after speaking with the contractor and supervision they were instructed by Thames Water Senior Managers that over the weekend we minimise any work that creates unnecessary noise during the Prince Phillip funeral timings (14:45-16:00) – this applied to all work across the board and not just in Windsor, to ensure that those customers who are watching the funeral are not disrupted by our teams on site and any noise associated The supervision will look into if the team did leave site at 1:30 by checking the tracker as they shouldn’t have left until at least 14:30 They returned to site on Sunday as planned and job was compete and lights we picked up around 2:30 Apologies, and thank you for taking the time to report this to us. Should you need anything else or have any questions please contact customer services on 0343 222 1234
