Debris on A316
Reported via Android in the Debris in the carriageway category anonymously at 18:51, Tuesday 11 May 2021
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2720047.
Piece of metal approx 70cmx30cm in the carriageway that flew up from under a car ahead of me in the lane beside me and damaged my car as it spiralled across from the middle of the lane it was in to the lane I was in.
I cycled down this road after it happened to get an image of what hit my car and the highway is a disgusting mess kerbside, on the central reservation, and on any part that doesn't see regular traffic across it. Littered with old road signs, sheets of plaster board, a large flat screen tv and mountains of smaller items and general heaps of detritus. Doesn't look like this road has been cleaned up in many years. If it has, then it needs much more regular cleaning and there's no excuse for highways contractors to be leaving old signs and cones or parts of either behind.

6 days later it was still there, just moved to partially on the kerb and partially in the gutter of the inside lane where so many vehicles have flicked it around the road driving on or over it. Looked like it might have gone on day 7 but can't be sure as it was raining and visibility was impaired as I was also on a scooter that day. Good job it didn't hit me when I was on the scooter rather than in the car.
