Pedestrian wait button not functioning properly.

Reported via desktop in the Pedestrian wait button not working category anonymously at 05:43, Friday 21 May 2021

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2739525.

Comments: The timings on the crossing that crosses the westbound side of Westhorne Avenue are terrible. When you press the button on the crossing, it often waits for 30secs-1min and then the pedestrian 'wait' sign goes out without the lights turning red. I have had this on several occasions, crossing in both directions however, today was most definitely the worst. Today I pressed the button 15 times before finally finding a gap in the traffic to cross without the lights. People were also pressing the button on the other side of the road when the wait sign went out.

Direction of Travel: Across the west bound carriageway of Westhorne Avenue

  • This morning I pressed the crossing button and had the 'wait' sign go out 23 times before the lights actually changed. Often when this happens it is around school time in the morning and there are secondary school children waiting to cross, who usually get annoyed with waiting and run across between the heavy traffic. This is dangerous and is an accident waiting to happen! I saw two people do this this morning.
