Persistent Flooding on A316

Reported via desktop in the Flooding category anonymously at 13:43, Monday 21 June 2021

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS2807695.

The westbound slip road from the A316 to the A312 roundabout has suffered from persistent flooding for a long time and this has been reported many times on FixMyStreet with no apparent improvement. Yesterday the flooding was so bad the A316 had to be closed. This caused lots of problems in surrounding roads as traffic diverted from the A316 struggled to find an alternative route. These problems included grid lock in my residential street which was used unsuccessfully as a rat run by drivers too impatient to queue at traffic lights at the Staines Rd/Sixth Cross Road junction. This persistent flooding needs to be resolved between yourselves and Thames Water before somebody hits the deep standing water and loses control possibly resulting in a fatality. What are you doing about it/going to do about it?

This slip road has flooded for a number of years now and frustratingly the cause should be known to TfL Streets as there was actually a plan (shelved) to repair the broken pipe. The pipe that carries water away from this location runs north-westerly, under the footbridge (toward Hospital Bridge Roundabout) and this is the pipe that has collapsed. This was known about between seven and ten years ago, and was not repaired.
