High Level Safety issue. Traffic Lights facing opposite 44 Vicarage Farm Road (along the A4), as the attached photo shows.
There is no light systems for pedestrian & cyclist crossing. The current set up is only for cyclists to cross by giving way. Pedestrians have no way to simply cross the road to walk along the A4. You can see in the photograph that pedestrians are crossing at a very high risk to their lives as the only way to cross through a controlled crossing is to do a large circuit crossing the A4, then crossing Vicarage Farm Road on the opposite end, and then back to crossing the A4 to end up 10 metres from the location you started, basically a large U Turn which is time consuming, hence the public are risking themselves for a simple crossing.
There is a very high risk for pedestrians (especially wheelchair users and babies in cots) and cyclists being hit by a vehicle (turning left from A4 into Vicarage Farm Road) causing serious injury or death.
I am very surprised that TFL has never considered to introduce safe walking and cycle crossing through a signal system.
As you are aware the speed limit on the A4 is 40mph and a vehicle will be turning into Vicarage Farm Road will be at high speed. The drivers will have less time to react.
I appreciate if this matter is taken seriously and acted on an urgent basis to be reviewed by your safety officer to evaluate the risk and accountability in an event of an incident and to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
Thank you.
