The manhole cover is making a loud noise (again)

Reported via desktop in the Manhole Cover - Damaged (rocking or noisy) category anonymously at 14:08, Thu 7 October 2021

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3048111.

Hi, there is a manhole cover in the area indicated by the pin on the map, which is making a loud noise. This has happened before, and on that occasion TFL did come out and fix it, but it has now gone wrong again. Just like before, the noise is very intrusive, and I believe it has, over the last few days, now got to the point where, once again, the mental health of residents is being put at risk. If TFL staff do not believe that this is a health and safety issue, please can they consider how they would feel if they had to live close to something which made a loud metallic sound about every few seconds, day and night.

I would like to request that, on this occasion, something be done to make sure that this issue is permanently fixed. There seem to be a lot of reports of a loud noisy manhole cover around here, going back a couple of years, and frankly I think it is not unlikely that all of them refer to this one cover, which does seem to keep going wrong.

I admit that I am no expert in this area, but last time the manhole cover was causing this kind of problem, one of the attempted solutions was to cover it with fresh tarmac. However, as Seven Sisters is a very busy road, the tarmac was largely eroded very quickly, and only a small amount was left, which did not significantly reduce the noise. At the time, it occurred to me that a much larger amount of tarmac might have done the trick; but as the problem was (at that time) fixed by another method, I never brought this possibility up with TFL. Now, however, I would like to offer this suggestion, for what it is worth: just pour huge amounts of tarmac on it, that might be the only thing that will fix it in the end.

However, as I say, I realise I am no expert, and if TFL has any other idea for how to permanently fix this manhole cover, please do put it into operation. But do something, at least; we can't spend the rest of our lives just reporting this thing every few months!
