Sunken storm drain
Reported via desktop in the Drain Cover - Missing or Damaged category by Christopher Jones at 16:45, Tue 7 December 2021
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3165716.
Hi TFL There is a sunken storm drain within the northbound bus lane on the Holloway Road, outside Vagabond Coffee Shop (105 Holloway Road). As the load-bearing wheels of buses / large vehicles travel over the sunken storm drain, a shockwave is transmitted across the road and into the Highbury Gardens development in which I live. I presume a similar (if not more significant) shockwave is transmitted into the properties on the western side of Holloway Road. The shockwave is very noticeable in my property (Apartment 22, 52 Holloway Road) and is akin to a minor earth tremor. I have concerns that if the storm drain is not lifted so as to achieve a level road surface in the bus lane, repeated shockwaves will undermine the building fabric in local structures, including my own. I urge you to inspect the sunken drain and am happy for you to take vibration measurements in my flat to validate this report. Many thanks

Hi again TfL. It won’t surprise you to learn that the drain outside Vagabond coffee shop has once again sunk, and the passing buses are transmitting a shock wave into the residential property opposite. It’s a shame that this recurring issue wasn’t addressed permanently whilst all the resurfacing works were done on this stretch of road recently, but maybe the drain can now be addressed once again. Many thanks.

The sunken drain outside Vagabond coffee shop still means that passing buses send a huge shockwave into the residential properties offsite. Is there an update on when the drain will be levelled?

Here’s a photo of the sunken drain from across the Holloway Road. The downward deflection can really be seen, and this is now posing a significant risk of injury or cyclists. Please address this urgently before someone comes off their bike.

WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED?! My entire apartment shakes when buses go past at speed. This wakes me (and probably other residents) up during the night a disrupts my working day. I have no idea what damage this might be doing to the structure of the 6 storey building I’m in. I’ve written to you repeatedly about this without response, so will now take it to my local MP.
