Unnecessary Lane Closure - Roadworks
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3166348.
Huge traffic disruption due to lane closure on the A1 southbound leading up to works for one small area off the road.
Please register a complaint as to why this was left during rush hour with no work going on and noni reason for the lane to be closed when pedestrians can still cross the road works.

Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. So the issue with these planned works by Cadent Gas is that there initial proposals required a temp walkway within the carriageway due to a footway excavation. And a result of the road being a 50mph street we required an extensive amount of traffic management.
When the works got underway, Cadent contractors tried maintaining the footway via footboards. Therefore the travelling public were lead to believe the TM was no longer necessary. Unfortunately the footpath is shared use one between cyclists and pedestrians and a minimum of 2m could not be maintained. Our inspections team spotted this and reported back to us. Therefore we had to keep the lane closure in place for a temp walkway.
The works were finally completed yesterday by 20.00pm. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
