Unjustified road lane closure at Kennington Green
Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 12:55, Tue 15 February 2022
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3313009.
The full width of Kennington Road at this location is STILL not open after months and months. There seems to be no obvious justification for this, as the bus lane that is blocked off is not being used for any works whatsoever. As a cyclist, I am effectively forced by the closure of this lane to share this stretch of road with a condensed flow of other vehicles, some of which are enormous lorries. I do not feel as safe as I would be if the lane was opened.
May I refer TfL to the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, which places the responsibility of those undertaking road works to "balance the statutory rights of highway authorities and undertakers to carry out works with the right of road users to expect the minimum disruption from works."
TfL is in breach of this principle, and must remove the barriers which for too long have been interfering with the reasonable use of the road by road users.
Thank you for your report. We will now assign this to the relevant team to investigate.

State changed to: Action scheduled
Updated by TfL at 08:05, Tue 22 February 2022
"State changed to: Action scheduled" (as posted on 22 Feb, a week after this problem was flagged up,.... again.)
Scheduled for when exactly ???
If you left your car parked in an active bus lane, how long do you expect it to remain there? Why should TfL's obstruction of an otherwise serviceable bus lane be given a free pass for months and months?
Please remove the barriers today. Enough already with this nonsense.
