Traffic light rotated wrong way on pedestrian crossing

Reported via desktop in the Damage - pole leaning / equipment detached from pole/facing the wrong direction category anonymously at 15:45, Thursday 31 March 2022

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3429539.

The traffic light on footscray road (eltham direction) which enables pedestrians to cross on the bridge over the railway has been rotated 180 degrees to face the wrong way. This means that someone crossing the road thinking it is safe to cross when there is a green man showing may be run over by someone who cannot see that the light is red, particularly someone turning from avery hill road. This is very dangerous. I have tried to drop a pin in the correct location on the map but you don't have a traffic light yellow circle exactly where the issue is for some reason. The crossing is between the crossroads of avery hill and southwood road and novar road where the road goes over the railway.

  • The traffic lights at the junction of Southwood, Avery Hill and Footscray Roads don't leave sufficient time for traffic that's stuck in junction to turn before lights change to green . We regularly turn right from Southwood into Footscray Rd and even if you're the only car waiting to do the turn, the opposing traffic can move forward before you can clear junction. On Wednesday evening 20th April, we were making this turn but unable to do so by oncoming traffic which included a bus which needed to turn right across us. As we started to complete our turn, a white car came at speed from Footscray Rd (New Eltham) and we still don't know how we missed colliding. Our thoughts are that this driver had been approaching the lights as they turned to green and because of turning bus he/she, hadn't been able to see our car in junction.
