Pike is closed to traffic
Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 21:05, Tuesday 5 April 2022
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3440120.
As Pike Road NW7 is completely closed to traffic until July 2022, it is very difficult for residents to leave this area. it is not suitable for us to drive up to Sterling Corner roundabout and do a U turn on the roundabout as this is an extremely busy area, and this diversion will add 20 minutes or more onto out journey. Residents are currently cutting through the Shell Petrol station and KFC take-away to get access to the A41. This is dangerous, unfortunately this will become the route used by many parents when schools open in 2 weeks time. Their are 2 schools in the Fairway NW7, so a large number of parents use the Pike Road exit, as do drivers who use the Shell Petrol Station. please could Pike Road be open to residents in the morning eg 6am to 9am, so that we can go to work and drop our children to school.
I second this complaint. How it was allowed to close Pike Road is ridiculous and dangerous. TFL really needs to relook and rethink this chaos. What will happen when Fairways School will reopen after Easter. There will be gridlock.

Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. These closures are required as we need to complete essential maintenance work on the A41 Edgware Way bridge (over the M1 and National Rail tracks).
The works will commence on the 1st April until summer 2022. Construction will be completed in stages to help minimise impacts, and will consist of a series of lane only and directional full closures of the A41 and overnight lane closures on the M1. For full details are available @ tfl.gov.uk/edgware-way
For short journeys in and around the area it is likely to be quicker to walk or cycle, where possible. If your journey is east/west across London and you do not need local access the M25 can be used as an alternative.
If you are travelling to or from central London, the A1 and the A10 can be used as alternatives. These routes are also anticipated to be busier because of additional traffic caused by the works. Please plan ahead and leave more time for your journey.
During this period works will be carried out Monday to Sunday - 24 hours a day to allow us to complete them as quickly as possible. Any noisy work will be carried out before 23:00 each day however. Our working hours have been agreed the London Borough of Barnet who are the local authority for the area.
We will consistently monitor the traffic and bus impacts of the closure and respond appropriately to minimise the impacts of the closure. We will be monitoring congestion on routes impacted by the closure and making optimisations to traffic signals to support traffic flows. Extra buses have also been added to the most impacted routes through the area.
The closure of Pike Road and diversion route were agreed with LB Barnet following extensive discussion - including a site visit - as the best location to site welfare and storage facilities. These facilities are vital to ensuring the works are carried out as safely and quickly as possible. Marshals are on site to provide assistance. Residents should follow the signs and barriers to the diversion route provided.
