Roadworks causing huge traffic problems

Absolutely ridiculous lane closures in and around Apex corner is having a terrible knock on effect on all surrounding areas of Mill Hill, Edgware, Borehamwood and Barnet. While these works may be essential is it necessary to have all the lanes closed when there is clearly nobody working in the lanes on A1, Apex Corner roundabout and from Mill Hill Circus to Apex corner A41. Have passed through this route 4 times in the last 2 days and haven’t seen a work person or vehicle of any kind. Also adding to the fact that these have been timed to be going on at the same time as Hendon Wood Lane is closed means there is no alternative route to be able to avoid or ease congestion. These are set to last for some time and people cannot get to work, school, medical appointments as even allowing ‘extra time’ to travel is still not enough to arrive on time!

  • Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. The temporary road layout will change as the works progress. Information on these changes can be found on the TfL website. The optimum method of working would be to close the road entirely to all vehicles and pedestrians in order to complete the works quickly to assure the quality of the repairs and provide a safe work area. However this would involve diverting pedestrians and vehicles over long distances for several weeks. Therefore, in order to ensure the needs of all road users are balanced, we will be closing the road in phases to complete the works.

    Closures on the approach to the roundabout are required to ensure that traffic into the roundabout doesn’t exceed the safe capacity of the exit routes. Removing the closure’s has been explored but it is not considered safe or to provide any benefit as it will reallocate the congestion elsewhere. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while the works are taken place
