Rotherhithe tunnel noth approach portal destroys passing cars

Reported via desktop in the Pavement Defect (uneven surface / cracked paving slab) category anonymously at 12:47, Friday 8 July 2022

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3661014.

Dear Madam/Sir,

I am writing to complain again on height restriction portal that has been recently installed in Rotherhithe tunnel north approach, Branch Road near E14 7JZ.

My previous complaint was received on 7 June and there has been no action taken yet. The reference number of my previous enquiry is 16891884.

Meanwhile, the Rotherhithe tunnel north approach portal height restricion bar continues to seriously damage passing cars. Please see pictures that I am attaching to this email. The bar literally ripped and destroyed the roof of the passing van.

Such cases happen many times a day as well as in the night time. When the car touches the height restriction bar, the restriction construction starts to swing and make creaking noises that are extremely loud and can be easily heard from my flat even when my windows are closed. Since summer time is here and all windows in the nearest residential buildings are open now, these loud sounds make live of the residents very uncomfortable especially in the night time. Please see the squeaking sounds video that I am attaching to this email as well.

More photos and videos that prove the damaging nature of the portal can be found in my previous email (CRM001:0144006323330).

I am asking you to start the investigation asap and fix the problem by changing super heavy bare metal bar to something more lightweight, a wooden construction, that will just notify the driver about the height limitation and not destroy their car.
