Report of disgusting and contagious toilet condition for bus drivers at the Northolt station bus stand.
I am the bus driver who regularly is there with many others bus drivers. And we have to use the toilet facility whether we want it or not.
I have reported the toilet a few times to my managers in the bus company I work. They made me sure, the report was forwarded to TFL. And regardless of how many months have been passing, no action from TFL is seen so far.
There are 2 important issues: 1. Contagious hazard. The toilet has got no mechanical ventilation at all. And is like a sealed off box. On my attached picture you can see some kind of ventilation hole, but it doesn’t work at all. The toilet is wet because of water splashing from the sink – hole, above the toilet flush button. Water is spilled all over the toilet and floor. After evaporation fills the air inside like in a sauna. Mud and dust brought on shoes made the floor extremely dirty. Second hazard is the sprinkled urine, when some men do pee. It’s pretty much obvious. Walls and floor is covered around and the urine evaporates too. Urine droplets hoovering are vectors of all diseases. And the person doesn’t need suffer of them noticeable, to pass them around. Toilet door are closed, and no mechanical ventilation too. Immediately the air inside is like a damped sauna room, you would not to enter at all. Especially these warm days.
2. Regular cleaning issue. Being honest I have never ever met a cleaner over there doing their job. So the toilet cleanliness is out of any poorest standard.
To check all facts I mentioned you can go there. The lock code is 7318.
Proposal of an easy improvement a.s.a.p.
Please consider to mount the 4” simple fan for £14. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ Xpelair-93224AW-Standard-Ventilation-Extractor/ dp/ B01DAEZB7E/ ref=sr_1_8_mod_primary_new?crid=1HFU3CNCPXPSW&keywords=4%22+fan&qid=1660083669&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=4+fan%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-8 Fan should be connected all time 24h daily to extract moisture and viruses out. So the cabin toilet will be dryer and safer.
The ventilation hole in the wall needs to drilled out. At the moment is not. So some accu-tools are needed, like drill machine, angle cutter and so on. There is electricity for a bulb. So 5 foot cable is needed only. For more efficient ventilation, there should be some small holes drilled in the bottom of the e.g. side wall or door.
Corner basin, that fits there. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ eConnect-EU-Bathroom-Cloakroom-Triangle-Minimalist/ dp/ B07QP11Q5L/ ref=sr_1_7?crid=1HEVDO4V4TDJ1&keywords=corner%2Bbasin&qid=1660083728&sprefix=corner%2Bbasin%2Caps%2C140&sr=8-7&th=1 Total for the whole kit is £95 only. Some waste water pipes are needed too for like £20 at B&Q or any plumbing store.
Please consider as well to arrange the cleaning more often there.
The operational labor time for that job is like 1 shift for 2 people with good tools.
Kind Regards, Andrzej Nikiel
PS. I have done best what I could to help.
