This is the third time in 6 months that extensive night time road works have been done with a jack hammer literally digging up the tarmac on the road outside our home in less than 6 months. The installation of temporary lights mean cars are beeping all night long on top of the fact that residents have to listen to relentless drilling for hours after we have come home from work. I have to be up at 6am to go back to work. Why are works being done at night and causing hours upon hours of distress to council tax paying residents when drivers would be put out for only minutes passing through if works were done during the day when people are not trying to sleep??
Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. Your email does of course make unfortunate reading as it is never our intention to disrupt or disturb the public whilst carrying out essential maintenance on TFL's network. I can apologise on behalf of TfL for any inconvenience or distress our work may have caused. You will be aware of the network and the hierarchy making seemingly minor defects (to the untrained eye) appear to be non-essential, the hierarchy we work to of course makes these repairs essential once identified. This location required planning due to the narrow road-space available and this necessitated off-peak working. I have briefed the individuals involved on the importance of trying (wherever possible) to complete residential areas first when working at night.
