Excessive waiting time leading to danger
Reported via desktop in the Pedestrian wait button not working category anonymously at 10:13, Tuesday 13 September 2022
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3821588.
From pressing the button the wait time is excessive for this pedestrian crossing on a heavily polluted road ( 4 min clocked). This leads to pedestrians (including children being taken to school) getting exposed to dangerous pollution levels for extended periods. This is particularly bad for children with asthma and respiratory issues. Also, I see precarious situations with people darting across the busy road.
All of this is very hostile to local residents and I'd be grateful if TFL can sort it out.
In other places the max waiting time for a button operated pedestrian crossing outside of intersections is 20 seconds. There is no justification for the waiting time on this particular crossing to be up to 4 minutes, and cutting it down would benefit local residents on a daily basis.
I made a complaint about this before, but there still seem to be unresolved.
Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. This has been investigated and we can confirm that there is a fault with the pedestrian wait button. We have therefore referred this to our contractors and it will be fixed within 28 days.
