Traffic lights operating incorrectly

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3824867.
I believe there is a danger to life with the traffic signals here. Last night I pressed the button at the lights shortly after someone had crossed when the pedestrian lights were green. The lights immediately changed from red to green and the cross-sound was given. I put my foot on the crossing but noticed that a bus was approaching at speed. I stopped and the bus went through the red light, the driver looking as though he had not noticed that the lights had changed. The cars on the other side of the road had stopped and I then proceeded to cross.
There is an ongoing problem with these light. Usually the wait is so long that most people stop waiting and cross the road when they can. On a number occasions, the wait light was cancelled without warning and the button needed to be re-pressed. This is a very busy road and vehicles regularly go well above a speed limit of 20mph, and a well maintained crossing is essential here.
