Traffic lights not working properly
Reported via mobile in the General Fault category anonymously at 08:29, Fri 30 September 2022
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3858430.
Timings miles out and traffic backing almost the entire way up Boston Manor Road as a result. Only 2-3 cars getting through at a time when normally it is 10-15!

Timing is still out

Yes timing is still out and it's causing cascading delays along not just the southbound Boston Manor Road but also Windmill Road and South Ealing Road (and even Lionel Road) from traffic heading south from Ealing onto the A4. Needs sorting please.

I'm across the road from Boston manor Station and the traffic is back over the station in Hanwell anf the traffic here is towards the Great West Road. Seriously very annoying to suddenly sit in traffic for 20 mins for a normal 4 min journey and to notice the traffic lights only letting 3 cars go.

Traffic Signal Engineer to attend to check connections for comms to site as this is linked from another site so probably not a Capita issue. MF

For anyone else reading this - I have had this helpful update from TfL, but obviously needs sorting soonest. It clearly is assuming BMR is empty and so just letting a very small number of cars through at a time in rush hour:
"Your feedback was sent our signal specialists, after review they’ve advised. The communications line connecting the traffic signals to our central computer system has failed at this location. It is affecting the dynamic control of the traffic signals meaning that green signal times are not changing based upon the number of vehicles waiting on each approach. This is being investigated by our communications provider and we are working to get a resolution as soon as possible."

Have the lights at the Windmill Lane junction with the A4, and South Ealing Road junction with the A4, also been disconnected?

Again this morning the traffic is backed up to the Uxbridge road in Hanwell at least 2 mile queue. The lights are stillcfaulty, the whole area is gridlocked northside of A4, up through Boston Manor, Northfields and South ealing.

My journey in the morning on the stretch of A4 between Gilette Corner and Boston Manor road is at least double and often 3 or 4 times what it should be. The road is jammed all the way along and then magically clears once past the lights at BMR. Clearly a problem with the sequence. The “loop” for “turning right” (towards Hounslow) from BMR used to sequence with that turn signal but now doesn’t. The whole sequence of the lights seems to be wrong. It is quicker for me to turn right at Gilette Corner, drive along London Road and back up again (more than a mile further in distance) than to sit in the queue.

Timings still out. Long traffic queues in the morning

The phasing of the lights is still a serious problem, causing long tailbacks on the Boston Manor Road back past the Boston Manor station to the Harvester restaurant. This is the same on other roads crossing the A4 so cannot be a fault, but linked to the works further down the A4 in an attempt to keep traffic moving, which has clearly failed. Please adjust to allow more time on all the roads crossing the A4 in the vicinity including the Boston Manor Road to ease the congestion and allow me to catch my train from Brentford Station on time. It can’t be right that it is taking me 45 minutes on the bus from Hanwell Broadway!
