Marathon Barriers left stacked up on A2 pavement
Reported via mobile in the Pavement Overcrowding category anonymously at 20:41, Fri 14 October 2022
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3889378.
The barriers which were put up three weeks (a week early) ago for the Marathon were stacked after it had taken place into piles along the kerbs. Most were then collected I believe shortly afterwards. However on the A2 between Blackheath (Lewisham/Greenwich Councils border) to Sun in the Sands Roundabout these are still there. This weekend will be three weeks pedestrians are having to squeeze past them in some places as you have those ‘dumped’ and then often the house’s council issued dustbins on the pavement constantly as they can’t be bothered to wheel them onto their own land, and several other obstructions to manoeuvre around. I feel very sorry for anyone who needs a wide space for a wheelchair or such as there is no way you could use the pavement at all at the junction with Kidbrooke Park Road. It’s bad enough we are enduring six weeks of overnight road works in the stretch by Kidbrooke Park Rd junction but these abandoned are nothing to do with that. I’m concerned a pile of the barriers will fall soon either into the road and cause a serious accident or fall on top of someone on the pavement and cause serious injury. I think it’s very poorly managed to have been there a week early - and then not collected, although similar to the appalling amounts of rubbish the marathon organisers also left to blow away overnight on Blackheath too. I hope they are being held to account as there was a noticeable diffetenc this year in them up and leaving so to speak after it had taken place and leaving their (unwanted) mark on the area.
