Noise and Lack of Safe Pedestrian Crossing
Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 18:58, Tue 6 December 2022
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS4019324.
Hi, Contractor SGN while a statutory utility company and the works are authorised, are carrying out the works in an unsatisfactory and unsafe manner: • Unsafe for pedestrians Initially the crossing point from outside Snap Fitness to lights at Toulouse Lautrec was blocked, with no alternative route sign posted or a set of temporary lights installed. The 2 crossing points required from Toulouse Lautrec to the opposite side of Newington Butts/Kennington Park Road is completely blocked off with no alternative set of pedestrian lights sett. I’ve seen elderly people, teenagers et al having to use the central reserve on Newington Butts to get access to Canterbury Place.
• Noise Works started on Sunday night a little after 21.00 I believe, I stand to be corrected. A JCB kango was used in a residential area (it may be a red route and just about Zone 1 but the roads are lined with apartment buildings) at the following unsociable hours 4th November - 22.00 5th November - 00.00 5th November - 21.00
This is unacceptable. People were trying to get to sleep and and its ruined many peoples start t the week. Why wasn’t the noisy work carried out at a more reasonable time….simple they are lazy and wanted late working allowance.
• Programmed Work Times The area is all cordoned off so its not about taking more road space. The works are programmed until Friday 9th. Little to no work occurs during the day. All the noisy work happens late at night (see above). There is large equipment being used again in the evenings. It started before 6pm this evening and is ongoing. This machinery was also operating after the kangoing mentioned earlier. Why aren’t they having multiple gangs woring on this during the day to finish earlier.
SGN are your typical lazy, ignorant, and inconsiderate utility company. They lifted countless manholes in the area, extending up Kennington Lane to Vauxhall nearly 2 months ago,. Manholes were left open for weeks with just simple plastic pedestrian guards. In some locations pedestrians nearly had to chicane around them them were so many in close proximity.
