Lane closure

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks category anonymously at 15:34, Wed 28 December 2022

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS4063168.

Two lanes closed for no reason whatsoever! Must’ve been closed with flooding about a week ago - flooding gone now, nobody on site, no machinery or anything else, apart from two of 3 lanes coned off, causing massive delays on approach!!!! Why is it even there????

Updates

  • This is an absolute disgrace. Three lanes down to one lane causing tail backs on the M4. There is no sign of any roadworks and absolutely no one working. Why is this being allowed? Shame on you all.

  • Can anyone explain or does anyone care about the unnecessary and quite frankly dangerous situation caused by an obvious lack of communication, accountability and basic line management?

As stated above ....the approach to the Cromwell bridge (Ellesmere road / Cedars road) was reduced from three lanes to one. Causing huge congestion back to and past the brewery on the Great west road and surrounding residential areas.

What was this for? There was no work being carried out.

The noise pollution in a residential area caused by frustrated drivers on a Sunday (unacceptable)....Caused by the wholly unnecessary delay! The excessive pollution caused by idling cars (unacceptable and unceessary)!!

The danger caused by drivers then speeding to the airport because of the delays (avoidable, unnecessary and dangerous)!!!!!!

It really isn't hard. When there is a serious accident ....it will be your responsibility. DO BETTER!!!!

  • Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. Unfortunately the bridge repairs were (and still are) safety critical. The duration is down to the scope of the works involved whilst also keeping this section of the A4 open for as much of it as possible. The cold snap is responsible for preventing TfL from completing the final weekend of its own works but as it stands at the moment, this final weekend has been pushed back until the current National Highways works are completed in order to avoid delaying their works programme.

The works that have started there now are to repair the concrete piers that are currently covered by nets to catch the falling concrete. This is being undertaken by National Highways. There will be lane 3 closures in place in both directions at this location from this week until early May to facilitate these works.

The cold weather is also responsible for the increase in burst water mains and other water related issues across the network, including this particular main on the A4. This has now been repaired and TM has been removed.

    State changed to: Fixed
