Loose Manhole Cover
Reported via desktop in the Drain Cover - Missing or Damaged category anonymously at 21:29, Thursday 5 January 2023
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS4092872.
There is damaged or loose manhole cover on the A3 slip road opposite the exit of Princes Avenue. Every time a vehicle passes over it there is loud noise, which can be heard over a wide area, when the cover is dislodged. Its only a matter of time before it collapses and causes a serious accident. I can't photograph it as its too dangerous to do that.

Further to my earlier correspondance here is a picture of the manhole cover. A photo doesn't show the cover lifting up or the noise. No action has taken place to yet to fix the problem

Unfortunately this issue has not been fixed and affecting a lot our sleeps. We are located very close to the broken manhole and the noise every night is unbearable for us and our little one. The last week has been worse. Appreciating a follow up asap. Thank you

Some contractors attended the loose man hole cover on 2nd February23. They have not repaired the problem and seem to have made the problem worse with continual noise as vehicles drive over the very loose cover. Please advise when the contractors will return to fix this. Thank you.

The loose man hole cover reported some time ago is still not fixed. You sent a contractor to look at it who just put loose tarmac on top. As I saw them doing this I asked if this was the permanent fix but the answer was no and other contractors would doing the proper repair. This was temporary to stop the cover jumping out. The temporary fix lasted a matter of hours and now that loose tarmac is in the gutter and all over the pathway at the junction of Princes Avenue and Hook Rise North. Is this ever going to be fixed and stop the noise the man hole cover creates when it jumps up as vehicles pass over it or is road safety no longer a concern of TFL who prefers to wait for an entirely preventable accident to happen until it does anything?

The situation with manhole cover is really unacceptable. You sent a team to make another temporary fix by covering it with tarmac again which doesn't last on a moving surface so it's all broken away again. What's more the loose tarmac is compressed into a ridge around the drain cover so vehicles drop into the drain cover "hole' making the noise even worse. Can you publish a timescale when this is going to permanently fixed please?
