Wait buttons on north side pavement not working properly

Reported via desktop in the Pedestrian wait button not working category anonymously at 17:29, Monday 23 January 2023

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS4163155.

Although no fault was found when you attended, I had occasion to use this crossing again this afternoon and it still would not work. However, when a second pedestrian arrived to wait, it did work. It seems that, for the button to work, someone has to be standing near the centre, between the two posts. If you stand near the post (as you have to to reach the button), it doesn't work. I found that, if I stood away from the post and prodded the button with my walking stick. it worked. Hardly a satisfactory method of operation!
