Very noisy loose manhole cover

Reported via mobile in the Manhole Cover - Damaged (rocking or noisy) category anonymously at 19:30, Tuesday 2 May 2023

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS4510127.

Loose manhole cover opposite Holy Trinity Church between 81/83 and 79 Trinity Road, on the left side of the road going away from Tooting Bec towards Clapham Junction. This is the third time it will need fixing, in the last couple of years. When Trinity Road was resurfaced that stopped the problem for much longer. It started about 3 weeks ago and it has gotten worse quite quickly. It is also much louder. It needs a permanent fix, please! It is very difficult to sleep/work from home etc. The constant flow of traffic, means that there is no break from the noise.

Updates

  • The noise may be coming from the grid next to the manhole outside 81/83 near to 79 Trinity Road. There is also a very loose manhole as you come out of the BP garage on Trinity Road. In fact the section from Holy Trinity Church all the way to Tooting Common is full of loose manhole covers. Particularly noisy ones are by Tooting Bec Station and at the edge of the Common. Please could permanent fixes occur at those manholes. Thank you.
