38 Weeks Pregnant and cant breathe with roadworks

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 09:29, Wed 6 September 2023

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS4963809.

Since the manor circus roundabout work has started there has been a steady slow moving/idling flow of cars outside our home on the A316. I dont have any medical conditions or breathing conditions but noticed I keep waking up with a tight chest and coughing. I put 2 and 2 together and realised that the only change is the traffic which is constant, steady and still, sitting outside the house for hours.

I am 38 weeks pregnant and becoming increasingly upset and concerned about bringing the baby home if the air quality is making me, a grown adult with no respiratory issues, symptomatic. What will she be breathing in when she comes home and when she is so tiny?

I understand and agree the works are necessary on the roundabout but I dont believe that poisoning a road of families with fumes is acceptable either. I am really concerned that traffic flow hasnt been fully considered in the planning for the works and that the health of residents has been totally disregarded. It also feels ironic that ULEZ changes have only just come into place after multiple accounts of preventable child deaths throuuh dangerous pollution levels. There needs to be a better plan in place to improve the flow of traffic when works arent taking place and during rush hour when traffic is at its worst. Please please can you re review the works and planning of traffic flow as a matter of urgency from a public health perspective.
