New Timings Are Awful

Reported via desktop in the General Fault category anonymously at 10:19, Tue 19 September 2023

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS5008905.

These traffic lights were recently replaced, with a new system of timings of lights put in place. This new timing system is simply appalling, and is causing huge congestion, especially during morning rush hour.

The new timings allow 70 seconds for horizontal Great North Way cars, and then only 10-15 seconds for Parson St/Holders Hill Road, allowing only approximately 5 cars through from Holders Hill Road to Parson Street! Even less cars get through when a bus stops to pick up passengers at the bottom of Holders Hill Road.

This is causing huge traffic all the way up Holders Hill Road, as well as all the surrounding roads of Holders Hill Avenue, Holders Hill Crescent, and Holders Hill Drive. Getting out of my residence in the morning and onto the Great North Way now routinely takes me EIGHT TO TEN minutes, rather than the 1-2 minutes it used to take.

There is never any build up of traffic for the Great North Way, and therefore no reason why the Parson Street/Holders Hill Road lights should be so short.

Having spoken to many residents, every single one finds the new traffic light timings horrendous, and would like to complain to TFL.

Please investigate this as a matter of urgency and lengthen the time allowed for Parson St/Holders Hill Road lights.
