Sliproad A3220, off A40 towards Shepherds Bush has been closed for 6 weeks with no work whatsoever done to it. Causing a lot of traffic

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks category anonymously at 00:10, Monday 25 September 2023

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS5027076.

I usually use the A3220 every morning and drive past it every evening. It has been closed for 6 weeks and I have not seen a single person or any type of road works being carried out. Why is it closed? This needs to be opened ASAP as its causing significant traffic and also been closed in a dangerous way, blocking lanes unnecessarily. Completely unreasonable closure for so long for no reason.

  • Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. Carl Eddleston, TfL’s Director of Network Management and Resilience, said: “Safety is our number one priority, which is why we have a programme of risk-based inspections for all structures across our road network. A recent inspection of the north-west slip road from the A40 Westway to A3220 West Cross Route has shown that a precautionary closure is needed to allow for further investigation and repair work to take place. “A short diversion will be in place during the closure. We’re sorry for any disruption and I’d like to thank people travelling through the area for their patience while this important repair work takes place." Additional information • Repair work will affect traffic travelling eastbound on the A40 intending to turn off the Westway to continue their journey southbound on the A3220 (towards Holland Park Roundabout) • There will be a short diversion when the closure is in place - traffic will exit the A40 Westway at the A219 Wood Lane slip road and immediately re-join the A40 Westway by crossing the signalised junction with Wood Lane • Signage will be in place on the wider road network to alert and guide motorists • Repairs may take up to 18 months, we will know more following further investigations
