Pedestrian crossing lights not in time with general traffic lights

Reported via desktop in the General Fault category anonymously at 21:55, Monday 2 October 2023

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS5054893.

Please check the timings of the pedestrian traffic lights. There are two sets of lights, one on the south and a pedestrian set 20m (ish) later on the north side (circled in the picture). We crossed the main traffic lights heading north at A1 / Finchley Lane intersection on the 2nd Oct 2023. It was evening rush hour and the road was wet but ahead was clear travelling at 45-50mph. Southside traffic lights were green as we crossed the junction. The pedestrian lights on the north side of the junction suddenly went red for the pedestrian crossing, despite the lights being green on the southside. The Government website suggests average stopping distance is 53 meters at 50mph. To have a green and then a red light such a short distance later with fast flowing traffic (50 mph) seemed very dangerous for pedestrians and road users. Hopefully it was an anomaly but we would suggest timing is checked. I was unable to stop the car properly without losing control in the wet. Many thanks
