Traffic lights usually stay red

If you are crossing the road north to south, you have three buttons to choose from. One is raised. None of them seem to work. After pressing the button, sometimes the red wait light illuminates, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it illuminates then times out and goes off. Either way, the road remains signalled green for cars even after waiting over five minutes and pressing the button several times. You don't have this issue if walking south to north, the system seems to work on the south side of the road. Hope that is clear
