6s green light on busy road

Reported via desktop in the Stuck on red category anonymously at 14:41, Saturday 13 January 2024

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS5437992.

I am writing to report a concern regarding the traffic lights at the intersection of Maxy Road and Marshgate Path. I have noticed that the traffic lights at this busy junction take approximately 58 seconds to change from red to green. However, more importantly, the green light phase lasts for only 6 seconds. This duration is grossly insufficient for crossing such a wide and busy road, even for individuals who are relatively quick and fit.

This issue poses a significant risk, especially for elderly pedestrians or those with mobility issues, who find it challenging to cross the road safely within the brief green light interval. Additionally, it creates a situation where pedestrians are more likely to rush or run across the road to beat the traffic light, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.

I would like to suggest that the green light duration at this intersection be re-evaluated and extended. A longer green light phase would ensure that all pedestrians, regardless of their age or physical ability, can cross the road safely and comfortably. It would also reduce the likelihood of pedestrians rushing, thereby decreasing the potential for accidents.

I hope that this issue will be addressed promptly to improve safety for all pedestrians using this intersection.
