Extremely loud beeping pedestrian crossing going off spontaneously
Reported via mobile in the General Fault category anonymously at 23:42, Mon 3 June 2024
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS6058540.
The traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing on Billet road opposite Walthamstow academy and primary academy is going off spontaneously from red to green every 24 seconds, with no pedestrians activating it by pressing the button. Even worse is that this is accompanied by extremely loud beeping every 24 seconds that can be heard through double glazing in every room of my house. This is going on throughout the night and day. Firstly: could the timing fault be sorted out so that the crossing only gets activated when pedestrians press the button to cross, and stop the cycle of every 24 seconds. Secondly: even when working correctly the pedestrian crossing beep is very loud and is a constant noise disturbance which is undermining the living standards of residents living on this road, including those who work from home and those with young children. It goes off continuously during the day, including early morning and late at night, and the repeat sound is causing a damaging effect on the mental health for residents and should be reviewed urgently. There are other crossings in the neighbourhood that are silent and provide a tactile rotating signal for accessibility. Please can this noise be turned off. Assistance as soon as possible would be very much appreciated.
