Green light for cycles is at same time as green for cars cutting across - dangerous!

If cycling towards Kingston college and press button to wait to cross, the green light for cyclists comes on at same time as green light for cars coming from the right. Scary! I twice pulled out and had to stop as cars were unforgiving. Must be a problem with the signal timings as it didn’t used to be a problem like this. Not sure if pedestrian lights having same issue. A messy junction for cycles especially as can’t reach the button to press for lights when in bike lane.
