Traffic jumping red lights

Reported via desktop in the Safety concern (traffic or pedestrian) category anonymously at 13:14, Sat 19 October 2024

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS6634617.

On. a regular basis I drive along Rushett Lane to its junction with Leatherhead Road and want to turn right.

This is a very busy junction and often there are a few cars attempting to do the same manoeuvre. It is made very difficult / dangerous due to cars coming along Fairoak Lane, wanting to go straight across the junction onto Rushett Lane and jumping the red light with seeming equanimity. By the time these drivers have cleared the junction, traffic on Leatherhead Road is starting to move, unyet cars trying to make the same manoeuvre as myself, cannot reverse, as sometimes 3 of them are trapped in no mans land in the middle of the junction and have no option but to continue onto Leatherhead Road heading towards Chessington Garden Centre.

The problem is the drivers on Fairoak Lane crossing the junction well after the light has turned red. This means that the cars (like myself) who are "trapped" in no mans land in the centre of the junction, cannot get across in time and safely and they end up trying to force their way across in the face of oncoming traffic which has jumped a red light.

I am not sure if there is a camera there, if there is, no one can be checking the photos as this happens all day long. Please can someone do something about this, as it is an accident waiting to happen - if it hasn't already.

Thanks
