Roadworks outside Kennington Park and Oval causing massive delays

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks category anonymously at 09:45, Mon 28 October 2024

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS6665956.

Roadworks outside Oval and Kennington park are causing huge disruptions along a busy commuter route with a lack of traffic management meaning that it is taking 30+ minutes to move along a short stretch of road. The works have been going on for over a month with no apparent progress and often with no workers appearing at the site. The closure of cycle lanes means it is also a dangerous commute for cyclists at an already busy intersection. There is also no indication anywhere of when these works are supposed to be completed by.

Updates

  • Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. The reinstatement of the works opposite The Oval station is finally underway. Because it was such a deep excavation, the reinstatement process takes a while due to the curing times of the different materials/layers. It may look like not a lot is going on there for the rest of the week. but this is due to these curing times. We are looking to be complete and site clear on Monday 4th November. Less than a week to go!

As for the use of temporary signals, these would likely only exacerbate the queueing in the area, which is why they were not used. A lane closure with the banned turn allows the junction to flow more efficiently, rather than splitting each of the four approaches to the junction into phases under temporary signals. NPD have been in the loop and should be assisting traffic flow with signal timings in the area. If the issue persists, please raise another report or contact our customer services team on 0343 222 1234.
