Reported via mobile in the Damage - smashed glass or panels / jagged metal edges on shelter category anonymously at 22:37, Wednesday 30 October 2024

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS6677937.

A man smashed a large square pane with the spider map display on it at about 18:18 Wednesday 30/10/24 at bus stop E, shelter 0106 1023, Shortlands Rd nr jct The Glen, Shortlands, Bromley Borough.

Reported to police who have allocated this as crime number CAD 6164/30 Oct24.

This appears to be mindless vandalism.

I heard three or so crashing bangs and turned to see the suspect leaving the stop and walking calmly up nearby Valley Rd looking at his mobile phone.

Only seen in silhouette, thin male about 5 foot 10 inches, black clothing, cap (possibly white, or appeared white under a stretlamp), with small rucksack, I think.

With a borrowed broom, I cleared glass from the footway and part of carriageway, but the police attending called Bromley Council to attend to sweep the road and clear all shattered glass fragments.

I note this shelter had a damaged red bench reported and removed. Perhaps that damage is related?

  • Fixed very promptly, thank you!

Glass pane smashed and bus map on ground at 18;18 30/10/24. Repaired as though never happened within 24 hours.

I am very impressed by your speedy response.

    Thank you!

There just remains the missing red bench, reported unstable then removed, before this smashing of the glass.

I can only speculate whether the bench damage was caused by the same vandal.
