Dangerous and ineffective temp traffic lights

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks category anonymously at 00:11, Sun 1 December 2024

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS6804775.

The traffic situation on Bishopsgate during temporary roadworks recently installed is appalling. The temporary traffic lights are not operating effectively given southbound cars block the only open lane (at Leadenhall Market) when the light is green for northbound traffic. I travelled through this area once on foot and twice on a bus and at all times traffic was at a standstill. This evening the bus I was in ran the red light when the road was finally clear, having sat through FOUR cycles of green lights during which it could not proceed north given a blocked lane of traffic. So dangerous and of course frustrating. This afternoon there were police managing pedestrians crossing (directly at Leadenhall Market entrance) because the green pedestrian light operates while there is a green light for traffic - absolutely shocking! Combined with further roadworks further along Bishopsgate and it is mind blowing to understand why a) these revised traffic plans were approved, b) the traffic lights are being used instead of traffic controllers, c) the cycle of lights isn’t safe and d) on such a busy thoroughfare these issues have not been immediately resolved to ensure safety of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, and to ease congestion.
