Tower bridge approach (a100) – acute danger due to carriageway failing to drain with rain, snow and freezing temperatures forecast this week

Reported via desktop in the Standing water category by MR MICHAEL WOODFORD at 16:23, Mon 30 December 2024

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS6912173.

I live in Shad Thames and walk over Tower Bridge several times a week. Driving from South to North there is a problem in the northbound direction of Tower Bridge Approach (A100), approximately 100 m after crossing the bridge, where rainwater pools and does not drain away for 12 to 24 hours - see photographs eight hours after rainfall had stopped. This is dangerous in any conditions as cyclists and motorcyclists in particular, abruptly swerve to their right as they see the flooding ahead, but in freezing temperatures it creates an extreme risk to life. The non-draining I believe is occurring in part due to of the anti-terrorist barriers creating an obstruction for the water to drain away, but with freezing temperatures, snow and rain forecast in the next few days an urgent solution needs to be identified to remove this acute danger on one of London’s busy arterial roads.
