Overgrown vegetation on pavement
Reported via desktop in the Overgrown vegetation category anonymously at 15:22, Wednesday 5 February 2025
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS7091109.
This path is terrifying and unpleasant to use because in places, especially around the brow of the hill, it is now only half its original width as hedge cuttings have not been cleared away and have allowed vegetation to take over and swallow the pavement. This is a FAST road and there is no protective barrier or verge. As the pavement is now so narrow it is terrifying and difficult to use. When there are cyclists, they cannot pass each other safely without one getting off and standing in the hedge. It is the main commute route between Leatherhead and South West London so is busy with cyclists at commuting times. The road itself is not suitable for cyclists as it is hilly, narrow, fast and busy. The pavement would be so lovely if the vegetation was cleared and it was returned to its original width. You can see from the street signs and lighting where the edge of the path used to be. The pavement could also use with a resurface near to the Leatherhead M25 roundabout in the not too distant future as mud and dirty water gather in the cracks and dips making a lot of the path slippy, dangerous and mucky. This pavement is unpleasant to use and I would avoid this route if I could. But it could be amended and improved by clearing the vegetation and returning it to its original width.
Credit where credit is due - five years ago this path was impassable for an entire year due to mud run off and this is now managed much better. It’s not brilliant but I know how terrible it was before so I appreciate that the path is now usable.)
